Consecrated on 2 Feb. 1004, T. repaired a serious fault committed by Otto II, who had suppressed the see of Merseburg and united it to that of Magdeburg; but T., realizing that the evangelization of the Wends was thereby seriously compromised, renounced Merseburg, which was thus restored as a bishopric. The Chronicle of Thietmar of Merseburg speaks of T. in very laudatory terms. T. died on 9 June 1012 at Rothenburg.
