TAGINO. – Henry II, whose chaplain he was, imposed him as archbishop on the cathedral Chapter of Magdeburg.
Consecrated on 2 February 1004, T. remedied a serious wrong committed by Otto II, who had suppressed the see of Merseburg and united it with that of Magdeburg; but T., realizing that the evangelization of the Wends was thereby seriously compromised, renounced Merseburg, which was thus re-established as a bishopric. The Chronicle of Dietmar of Merseburg speaks of T. in highly laudatory terms. T. died on 9 June 1012 at Rothenburg.
