TEAGENES, Saint, Martyr. - He is commemorated in the Jeronymian Martyrology on January 3 together with two companions, Ziricus and Primus, but this is an erroneous interpretation of the topographical indications of the Passio; in the Synaxarion he is falsely called a bishop.

The Passio, from the 4th century, relates that T. was the son of the bishop of Parium in the Hellespont. Called to military service, in the time of the emperor Licinius, he refused to enlist, citing religious reasons. He was therefore judged by the tribune Zelicinius, who, after having him horribly scourged, shut him up in prison in chains. Condemned to death, he was thrown into the sea; certain of the faithful recovered his corpse and buried it in the villa of a certain Adamantius.
