TEODORO, bishop of AQUILEIA. - He was already bishop in 314, since in that year he took part in the Council of Arles against the Donatists. D. about 330.
His name is linked with the distinguished monuments of the city (v. AQUILEIA), where there are two inscriptions commemorating him. The first: « [Theod]re felix, hic crevisti, hic felix », placed in the oldest oratory, perhaps alludes to the birthplace of T., transformed into a liturgical hall probably toward the end of the 2nd century or at the beginning of the 3rd. The other inscription is found in the basilica built by T. himself: « Theodore felix [x]diuvante Deo omnipotente et poemnio caelitus tibi [tra]ditum omnia [b]aeate fecisti et gloriose dedicasti »; it recalls the notable work accomplished with the help of the people. The two inscriptions were certainly placed after the death of T., and perhaps at the beginning of the 5th century, when the basilica was enlarged to meet the needs of the multitude of the faithful.
