TEODORO, VESCOVO DI AQUILEIA

His name is linked to the notable monuments of the city (v. AQUILA), where two inscriptions commemorating him exist. The first: «[Theodo]re felix, hic crevisti, hic felix», placed in the oldest oratory, perhaps alludes to the birthplace of T. transformed into a liturgical hall, probably towards the end of the 2nd century or at the beginning of the 3rd. The other inscription is found in the basilica built by T. himself: «Theodore felix[quid]unt omnia [b]aeate fecisti et gloriose dedicasti», it recalls the notable work done with the help of the people. The two inscriptions were certainly placed after the death of T. and perhaps at the beginning of the 5th century when the basilica was enlarged to accommodate the multitude of the faithful.
