THEODORE, Bishop of Aquileia. - He was already bishop in 314, since in that year he took part in the Council of Arles against the Donatists. He died around 330.

His name is linked to the distinguished monuments of the city (v. AQUILEIA), where there are two inscriptions that commemorate him. The first: "[Theod]re felix, hic crevisti, hic felix", placed in the oldest oratory, perhaps alludes to T.'s birthplace, transformed into a liturgical hall probably toward the end of the 2nd century or the beginning of the 3rd. The other inscription is found in the basilica built by T. himself: "Theodore felix [x]diuvante Deo omnipotente et poemnio caelitus tibi [tra]ditum omnia [b]aeate fecisti et gloriose dedicasti", and recalls the distinguished work done with the help of the people. The two inscriptions were certainly placed after T.'s death and perhaps at the beginning of the 5th century, when the basilica was enlarged to accommodate the multitude of the faithful.
