ABERT, FRIEDRICH PHILIPP. - German theologian, b. 1 May 1852 at Münnerstadt, d. at Bamberg on 23 Apr. 1912. He held the chair of dogmatic theology at Regensburg in 1885; in 1890 he occupied Hettinger's chair at Würzburg, and on 30 Jan. 1905 he was elected archbishop of Bamberg. His entire scholarly activity was directed almost exclusively to the study of St. Thomas and to the solution of the various social problems, especially in relation to workers' questions.
