FRIEDRICH PHILIPP ABERT. German theologian, b. 1 May 1852 at Münnerstadt, d. 23 Apr. 1912 at Bamberg. He held the chair of dogmatic theology at Regensburg in 1885; in 1890 he occupied at Würzburg the chair of Hettinger, and on 30 Jan. 1905 was elected Archbishop of Bamberg. Almost his entire scholarly activity was devoted almost exclusively to the study of St Thomas and to the solution of various social problems, especially in relation to labor questions.
