ABERT, FRIEDRICH PHILIPP. – German theologian, born on 1 May 1852 in Münnerstadt, died in Bamberg on 23 April 1912. He held the chair of dogmatic theology at Regensburg in 1885; in 1890 he occupied Hettinger’s chair at Würzburg, and on 30 January 1905 was elected archbishop of Bamberg. His entire scholarly activity was devoted almost exclusively to the study of St Thomas and to the resolution of various social problems, especially in relation to workers’ issues.
