ADALGISO, SANTO

ADALGISO, Saint. — Bishop of Novara. The church’s diptychs assign him 19 years of episcopate, which must have lasted from 830 or 831 to 849 or 850, and they call him “gem of priests.” The surviving documents of the period indeed attest that he was greatly beneficent toward his church and carried out notable pastoral activity.

His feast occurs on October 7; his body, originally deposited in the church of S. Gaudenzio al Mure, which was destroyed in 1553, was later transferred to the present-day Duomo, consecrated in 1590.
