AGONALI (Agonalia, Agonia). — Roman festivals held four times a year: on 9 January, 17 March, 21 May, and 11 December. We derive these dates from the calendars, which, however, tell us little more. From them and from the writers, we know that on 9 January the rex sacrorum sacrificed a ram to Janus; that 17 March was sacred to Mars; and that 21 May was sacred to Vèiove. The festival of 11 December was dedicated to Sol Indiges.
