AHLE, JOHANN RUDOLPH

AHLE, JOHANN RUDOLPH. – Theologian and musician, born on 24 December 1626 in Mülhausen in Thuringia, died there on 9 July 1673. Among his many works, noteworthy are the motets, the sacred concertos (for up to 20 voices, with instruments), and the very numerous chorale melodies, some of which are still used in Protestant sacred hymns. He also wrote theoretical works, including: Compendium pro tonellis; De progressionibus consonantiarum, etc.
