AHLE, JOHANN RUDOLPH. - Theologian and musician, b. 24 Dec. 1626 at Mülhausen in Thuringia, d. there 9 July 1673. Among his many works are noteworthy the motets, the sacred concertos (for up to 20 voices, with instruments), the very numerous chorale melodies, some of which are still alive in Protestant sacred song. He also wrote theoretical works, among them: Compendium pro tonellis; De progressionibus consonantiarum etc.
