ALBERICO of the THREE FOUNTAINS (Trois-Fontaines, diocese of Châlons-sur-Marne). - Cistercian, d. after 1241, author of a universal chronicle (Chronicon) from the creation of the world to the year 1241.
He drew upon a great number of sources, many of which have been preserved, while some have been lost. The work, interpolated before 1205 by Mauritius, a regular canon of Neufmoustier near Huy, often lacks critical judgment and is therefore of relative value except for the last twenty years. The chronicle was edited with a critical introduction by P. Scheffer-Boichorst, in MGH, Scriptores, XXIII, Hanover 1874, pp. 631-950.
