ALBERICO di REIMS. - Medieval scholastic, d. 1141. He was a disciple of Anselmo di Laon, fellow disciple and opponent of Abelardo (Hist. calamitatum, cols. 4 and 9: PL. 178, 125 and 144); archdeacon and professor at the cathedral school of Reims, where he attracted a large number of pupils despite the obscurity of his teaching. Elected bishop of Châlons-sur-Marne in 1126, Pope Onorio II refused, for reasons unknown, to confirm him, despite the intervention of s. Bernardo on his behalf (Epist. 15: PL. 182, 116). In 1136 he was elected archbishop of Bourges, encouraged and supported by Pope Innocenzo II (PL. 179, 278).
Of his works, only a letter to Gualtero di Mortagne has survived, concerning the essence of the marriage contract (E. Martène, U. Durand, Veterum Scriptorum... ampliss. collectio, II, Parigi 1720, col. 838).
