ALBERICO da ROSCIATE. - Jurist, born in Bergamo and died there in 1354. He studied in Padua under the guidance of Riccardo Malombra. He practiced law in his native city and, due to the great reputation he acquired, he was entrusted with important tasks, including the embassy to Avignon in 1340 on behalf of the Visconti of Milan, and the revision of the city statutes.
His scholarly works reflect the influence of forensic practice and the issues to which the author occasionally had to apply his intellect. He wrote extensive commentaries on the Digest and the Code, a Dictionary of Civil and Canon Law, a commentary on Book VI of the Decretals; but his principal work remains the *Opus statutorum*, in which he systematically treats the foundation, form, and efficacy of statutory laws.
