ALIBRANDI, ILARIO. - Romanist, b. in Rome on 8 Feb. 1823, d. there on 27 Jan. 1894. At the University of Rome he professed Pandects from 1849 to 1870, then, having retired, he held until his death the chair of the same discipline at the Pontifical Academy of Historical-Juridical Conferences in Rome. He held various offices in the ecclesiastical tribunals and in the pontifical curia. He was a scholar of the highest worth and anticipated the interpolationist doctrine in the study of Roman law.
His studies, for the most part published in Studi e documenti di storia e diritto of the Academy of Historical-Juridical Conferences and in the Bullettino dell'Istituto di diritto romano, were collected in the volume: Opere giuridiche e storiche del prof. I. A., Rome 1896, edited by the Academy itself.
