ALIBRANDI, ILARIO. — Romanist, born in Rome on 8 February 1823, died there on 27 January 1894. At the University of Rome he taught Pandects from 1849 to 1870; thereafter, having retired, he held until his death the chair of the same discipline at the Pontifical Academy of Historical-Juridical Conferences in Rome. He held various offices in the ecclesiastical tribunals and in the pontifical curia. He was a scholar of the highest distinction and anticipated the interpolationist doctrine in the study of Roman law.
His studies, for the most part published in Studi e documenti di storia e diritto of the Academy of Historical-Juridical Conferences and in the Bullettino dell'Istituto di diritto romano, were collected in the volume: Opere giuridiche e storiche del prof. I. A., Rome 1896, edited by the Academy itself.
