ALIBRANDI, ILARIO. – Roman legal scholar, born in Rome on 8 Feb. 1823, died there on 27 Jan. 1894. At the University of Rome he taught Pandects from 1849 to 1870; thereafter, retiring from that post, he held until his death the chair of the same discipline at the Pontifical Academy of Historical-Juridical Conferences in Rome. He held various offices in ecclesiastical tribunals and in the Roman Curia. A scholar of the highest merit, he anticipated the interpolations doctrine in the study of Roman law.
Most of his writings, published in Studi e documenti di storia e diritto of the Academy of Historical-Juridical Conferences and in the Bullettino dell’Istituto di diritto romano, were collected in the volume: Opere giuridiche e storiche del prof. I. A., Rome 1896, edited by the Academy itself.
