ALFONSO de ISLA. — Portuguese Franciscan of the sixteenth century. Nothing is known of his life. He published Tesoro de virtudes (Medina 1543, and elsewhere). In 1574, this work was translated into Italian by Fra Giovanni M. Brancalupo, with the addition of a report by the Portuguese Antonio Olano on the martyrdom of Fra Andrea da Spoleto. Lengua de vida is also attributed to A., but it may be identical with the preceding work.
