ANDREA da SPOLETO. - Born at Cascia around 1481. In his disorderly youth he was the head of a faction. He entered the Order of Friars Minor, then left it, but soon returned. To do penance he went to Corsica to assist the plague-stricken. After that, with the permission of the general and of the ecclesiastical authority, he set out for the missions of Africa. Having arrived at Ceuta and then at Fez, he preached in public before Jews and Muslims. He received the crown of martyrdom on 9 Jan. 1532.
