ANDREA da SPOLETO. — Born at Cascia around 1481. During his disorderly youth he headed a faction. He entered the Order of Friars Minor, then left it, but soon returned to II. To do penance, he went to Corsica to assist those afflicted by the plague. After this, with the permission of the superior general and of the ecclesiastical authorities, he departed for the missions of Africa. Having arrived at Ceuta and then at Fèz, he preached publicly before Jews and Muslims. He received the crown of martyrdom on 9 January 1532.
