Amfiteatrov, Anton

AMFITEATROV, ANTON. - Russian dissident theologian of the 19th century (1815-79), pupil and doctor of the Ecclesiastical Academy of Kiev.

He concerned himself greatly with the formation of the parish clergy, for whom he published a Dogmatic Theology of the Eastern Orthodox Catholic Church, widely used in Russia and translated into Greek (Athens 1858) and into Bulgarian (Kishinev 1869). He also left two collections of discourses (Kiev 1859; Kazan 1870).
