AMFITEATROV, ANTON. — Russian dissident theologian of the nineteenth century (1815–79), student and doctoral graduate of the Ecclesiastical Academy of Kiev.
He devoted considerable attention to the formation of the parish clergy, for whom he published a Dogmatic Theology of the Eastern Orthodox Catholic Church, widely used in Russia and translated into Greek (Athens 1858) and Bulgarian (Kiscenev 1869). He also left two collections of discourses (Kiev 1859; Kazan 1870).
