ITALIAN CATHOLIC YEARBOOK. – Annual publication issued in Rome from 1922 to 1938 (a single volume covers the years 1936 and 1937). The initiative was taken by the Secretariat of Culture of the “Unione popolare tra i cattolici d’Italia”; once this body was dissolved in the same year 1922, the publication was assumed for 1923 and 1924 by the “Giunta dell’Azione cattolica italiana” which succeeded it; and finally continued from 1925 to the end by the “Comitato Fides romana.” The general editor of the Yearbook was always Eglberto Martinez (until 1926, with Silvio D’Amico and Corrado Mezzana). The publication, which bore the subtitle “small encyclopedia of the religious life of the dioceses of Italy and of Catholic organization,” contains, besides fixed columns devoted to the hierarchy and Catholic Action, chronicles, biographies and various writings illustrating the religious movement, Catholic culture and art, and the politico-religious events of the nation, with particular regard to the missions in the Italian colonies.
