ANTONIO da MONEGLIA (a Monelia). - Franciscan mystical theologian, apparently died in 1527. A Ligurian, he belonged to the Bolognese province, in which he was successively lector of theology, guardian and, from 1526, provincial. Some historians confuse him with Antonio Pagliettino, also of Moneglia, his contemporary and a member of the same Order.
His principal writings concern mysticism: In Divini Dionysii mysticam theologiam clarissima commentaria (Bologna 1522); Sursum corda, a work divided into three parts: 1º Directorium infiammandi mentem in abyssum divini luminis per sacrarum Scripturarum sensus reseratos et ad unguem materiae applicatos in 4 books (Bologna 1522); 2º Trophaeum Israeliticum triregium mysticum vitiorum stragem significans in 4 books, the first of which was published in Bologna in 1526, the others posthumously in 1529; 3º Trophaeum Israeliticum quatiregium, unpublished (G. Piccone doubts that the manuscript no longer exists).
