APODOSI (ἀπόδοσις). – It is the deposition, or conclusion, of a feast that has continued for several days. In the Byzantine rite, in fact, the principal feasts are commemorated for a certain number of days and conclude with the repetition of their offices. The number of days celebrated is not fixed as in the Roman rite (octava), but varies according to the feasts and their concurrence with other commemorations. The movable feasts of the Paschal season likewise have their a. That of Easter is fixed for the eve of the Ascension. The Sundays between Easter and the Ascension have an a. after two or three days.
