APOSTOLOS (Ὁ Ἀπόστολος). - In the Byzantine liturgy it is the book that contains the Epistles and the Acts of the Apostles, or parts of them. It is handed to the anagnostes after his cheirotonia, because it is his office to read a passage from it during the sacred liturgy, after the minor introit, and at other services.
