APOSTOLOS (ὁ ἀπόστολος). – In the Byzantine liturgy, this is the book containing the Epistles and the Acts of the Apostles, or portions thereof. It is entrusted to the anagnostes after his cheirotonia, since it is his duty to read a passage from it during the sacred liturgy, after the minor entrance, and at other services.
