Armilustrium

ARMILUSTRIO (ARMILUSTRIUM)

ARMILUSTRIUM. - A festival of the oldest Roman calendar, which fell on 19 Oct. The name defines it as a festival of purification of arms; the guild of the Salii took part in it. The festival, which, in its connection with that of 15 Oct. (equus october), has a precise correspondence with the festival cycle of the month of March (14 March: Equirria; 19 March: Quinquatrus), belongs to the public Roman cult of Mars.
