Arzon

ARZON. - The present-day Chaldean diocese of Séert was formerly called A. The Nestorians also called it Mévadré ("the dispersed"), to indicate the scattered tribes that made it up. Under the first patriarch, in 1553, it had a Catholic bishop, and the series has continued down to our own day, with the sole interruption of the last three decades of the 17th century. This diocese was devastated during the war of 1914-18 and to this day has not been reorganized.
