ASCLEPIUS. - African bishop, of whom Gennadius writes, De viris illustribus, 73 (PL 58, 1102): "A., an African, from the territory of Baiae (an uncertain locality), a great bishop, wrote against the Arians and is now said to be writing against the Donatists. He also enjoys great fame in preaching extemporaneously." He therefore lived in the middle of the 5th century. Cf. P. Monceaux, Histoire littéraire de l'Afrique chrétienne, IV, Paris 1912, p. 508.
