BEATRICE II D'ESTÉ, BEATA

BEATRICE II d'ESTE, Blessed. — Benedictine, daughter of Azzo VII d'Este and niece of the preceding. Already widowed, according to some accounts, she entered the monastery of S. Stefano de Rotta in Ferrara, where she made her profession in 1254. Some years later, she moved with the community to the monastery of S. Antonio Abate outside the city walls, where she died on 28 February 1264, at about 33 years of age. Her cult was approved in 1774.
