BECK, JAKOB CHRISTOPH. - Swiss Protestant theologian b. and d. at Basel (1711-85), where he taught history (1737), theology (1744), and Old Testament exegesis (1759).
His Vollständiges Biblisches Wörterbuch oder Verbalund Real-Concordanz (Basel 1770) went through many editions.
Among his other exegetical works, in Latin, we note the Epitome historiae Ecclesiae V. Test. (ibid. 1770) and three works on the text of the New Testament (1774-76).
