BECK, JAKOB CHRISTOPH. – Swiss Protestant theologian, born and died in Basel (1711–85), where he taught history (1737), theology (1744), and exegesis of the Old Testament (1759).
His Vollständiges Bibliisches Wörterbuch oder Verbal- und Real-Concordanz (Basel, 1770) went through many editions.
Among his other exegetical works, in Latin, we note the Épitome historiae Ecclesiae V. Test. (ibid., 1770) and three works on the text of the New Testament (1774–76).
