BENCI di CIONE DAMI. — An architect of Comacine origin; he worked in Florence where he died in 1388. In 1349–50 he worked with Neri di Fioravante on the church of S. Carlo and on the loggia of Orsammichele; in 1366–68 he collaborated on the project for the continuation of the construction of the Duomo; his masterpiece is the loggia of the Signoria (in collaboration with Simone Talenti), which is linked to the classical tradition by the monumental proportions.
