BENCI di CIONE DAMI. – Architect of Comacine origin; he worked in Florence, where he died in 1588. In 1549–50 he worked with Neri di Fioravante on the church of S. Carlo and the loggia of Orsammichele; in 1566–68 he collaborated on the project for continuing the construction of the Duomo. His masterpiece is the loggia della Signoria (in collaboration with Simone Talenti), which is linked to the classical tradition through the monumentality of its proportions.
