BIGLIA (DE BILIS), ANDREA. - Theologian and humanist, b. in Milan around 1395, d., it seems, in the last months of 1435. While still a boy he entered the Augustinian order. He became a philosopher, historian, theologian, orator, polyglot and celebrated humanist.

In print there is: Mediolanensium rerum historia ab an. 1402 ad an. 1435 (L. A. Muratori, Rerum Italicarum Scriptores, XIX, Milan 1731, p. 110 ff.). There remained instead in manuscript: Adversus schisma Benedicti XIII anti-papae (Ambrosian Library, cod. H. 117), a treatise composed in 1425; Commentariorum historicorum de defectu fidei in Oriente II. XII (cod. Vat. lat. 5298); Adnotationes in Evangelia Quadragesimae (Ambrosian Library, cod. E.S. VII, 2); Adnotationes in Evangelia totius anni (Ambrosian Library, cod. E. S. VII, 3). Moreover, there are by him not a few funeral orations and panegyrics, biblical and philosophical commentaries (especially on Porphyry and Aristotle) and a copious epistolary.
