BONIFACE VI, Pope. - La morte di papa Formoso, avvenuta il 4 apr. 896, segnò l'inizio di lunghi gravi tumulti in Roma, causati dai due partiti opposti di Arnolfo, re di Germania, e di Lamberto di Spoleto. B., romano di nascita, fu eletto dal partito spoleto e consacrato nell'apr. dell'896. At the Roman Council of 898 under John IX, this factious election is recalled, deploring the fact that B. had been deposed as a subject and as a priest. His pontificate was very brief. Stricken with gout, he died fifteen days after his election and was buried in the portico of the Pontiffs at the Vatican.
