BOUQUIN, CHARLES. — Dominican theologian and apologist, born at Tarascona on the Rhône in 1622, died at Buix in the Dauphiné on 14 February 1698. A religious, he was professor of theology and for many years regent of the school of Aix; he was also prior.
He wrote a broad and profound commentary on the Lauda Siou of St Thomas: Solis Aquinatis splendores circa Sacrosanctum Eucharistiae mysterium aliaque christianae religionis arcana (Lyons 1677); and several apologetic works: Sermones apologetici, quibus sanctae catholicae ac Romanae Ecclesiae fides contra novatores defenditur ac propugnatur (there 1689); De l'origine, antiquité, excellence et utilité de l'état religieux en l'Église (there 1689); Instructions chrétiennes et orthodoxes en forme de cathéchisme (there 1686, Carpentras 1693).
