BRIDEL, Bedřich. — Bohemian Jesuit, b. in 1619, d. at Kutná Hora in 1680. He translated into Czech various ascetical works, but is especially remembered today for his religious poetry in the Czech language, which makes him a significant representative of Bohemian "Baroque" literature. B. was brought back into prominence by the Slavist Monsignor J. Vašica, who republished in Prague, from 1931 to 1939, his principal poems, with historical and literary commentary.
