BUGNI, CLARA. - Mystic, born at Venice on 4 Oct. 1471, died 17 Sept. 1514.
She was baptised with the name Bianca. She joined the Third Order of St Francis, who attended to the care of the sick in the hospital of the Holy Sepulchre, and there received the name of C. She was often rapt in ecstasy. She was afflicted by blows and demonic apparitions. In 1504 she was elected superior of the monastery. She enjoyed lofty charismatic manifestations and the stigmata. She is honoured with the title of Blessed in Benigno Frenault, *De vitis Sanctorum Ord. s. Franc.*, 17 Sept.
BIBL.: Wadding, *Annales*, XV, pp. 541-548, nn. XII-XXX, recounts her marvellous life but does not accord her the title of Blessed; the *Acta SS.
