PERE BUSQUETS (Pere Busquets). — Franciscan, born at Sant Feliu de Guíxols in Catalonia in the 15th century. A distinguished man of letters, he was one of the most active and zealous promoters of the restoration of Christian discipline and strict morality in opposition to the paganizing skepticism and the spirit of pseudo-criticism spread in Catalonia by the Renaissance. Among his works, particular mention should be made of his two most faithful translations into Catalan of the *Specchio della Croce* and the *Pungilingua* by Fra Domenico Cavalca; these versions are preserved in manuscript form in the Catalan Library of Barcelona.
