BUGLIONI BENEDETTO and SANTI. - A continuator Della Robbia (v.), BENEDETTO (b. in Firenze in 1461, d. there in 1521) appears superior to Giovanni Della Robbia, with whom he is often confused. His terracottas are in Perugia (lunette for the Badia, 1487–1490); in Pistoia (Resurrection of Christ, now in the chapter house of S. Francesco, 1481; lunette with the Coronation of the Virgin in the hospital of the Ceppo, 1510); at Massa (fragments of the Adoration of the Child in S. Francesco, 1508).
To SANTI B. (b. in Firenze in 1494, d. there in 1525), a pupil of Benedetto, whose surname he adopted, we chiefly owe the frieze with the Works of Mercy in the hospital of the Ceppo at Pistoia (except for the episode of the Thirsty), which was traditionally attributed in its entirety to Giovanni Della Robbia.
