BUGLIONI BENEDETTO and SANTI. - Continuators of Della Robbia (v.), BENEDETTO (b. in Florence in 1461, d. there in 1521) appears superior to Giovanni Della Robbia, with whom he is often confused. His terracottas are in Perugia (lunette for the Badia, 1487–1490); in Pistoia (Resurrection of Christ, now in the chapter hall of S. Francesco, 1481; lunette with the Coronation of the Virgin in the hospital of the Ceppo, 1510); in Massa (fragments of the Adoration of the Child in S. Francesco, 1508).
To SANTI B. (b. in Florence in 1494, d. there in 1525), a pupil of Benedetto, whose surname he took, we owe mainly the frieze with the Works of Mercy in the hospital of the Ceppo in Pistoia (excluding the episode of the Thirsty), which was traditionally attributed entirely to Giovanni Della Robbia.
