BURATTO. — This is the name given to a fabric with a wide weave, on which embroidery is worked with needle stitches in a color different from, and generally lighter than, the ground. Buratto was widely used in the 16th century. Compared with other techniques, it has a greater overall softness, owing to the wide weave of the ground.
