Cajal, Santiago Ramón y

CAJAL, SANTIAGO RAMÓN y. - Spanish pathologist and histologist, b. at Petilla de Aragón in 1852, d. in 1934, known for the histological techniques he introduced in the examination of the nervous system. Nobel Prize 1906. He also dealt with certain general questions. Religiously agnostic, he is to be remembered for the critical sense with which he recognized, in the progress of his studies, the total insufficiency of evolutionary theories.
