Cajamarca, Diocese of. — In the Republic of Peru, department of Cajamarca, suffragan of Trujillo.
Erected on 5 April 1908, it comprises the department of Cajamarca with a territorial extent of 25,000 sq. km. and 587,644 inhabitants (1948), almost all Catholic. The diocese includes 183 churches and 34 parishes, served by 30 secular priests and 15 regulars (1948). The episcopal city has a seminary, six churches—among which are noteworthy the cathedral dedicated to St Catherine and the church of Belén—the convent of St Francis of Assisi, in whose church (Capilla de los Dolores) are fine bas-reliefs by the local artist Sebastián Tejada, and the convent of Belén.
