CAJAMARCA, Diocese of. - In the Republic of Peru, department of C., suffragan of Trujillo.

Erected on 5 April 1908, it comprises the department of C. with a territorial extent of 25,000 sq. km. and 587,644 inhabitants (1948), almost all Catholics. The diocese comprises 183 churches and 34 parishes, with 30 secular priests and 15 regulars (1948). The episcopal city has a seminary, 6 churches — among which the cathedral dedicated to St. Catherine and the church of Belén are worthy of mention — the convent of St. Francis of Assisi, in whose church (Capilla de los Dolores) there are excellent bas-reliefs, the work of the local artist Sebastiano Tejada, and the convent of Belén.
