KARL FRIEDRICH BURDACH – Physician, anatomist, and physiologist, born in 1776, died in 1847; professor at the University of Königsberg, a great scholar of the anatomy of the central nervous system.
His Physiology as a Science of Observation (Italian trans., Venice 1843) was placed on the Index, likely due to its idealistic tone ("philosophy of nature" of the early Schelling), though the pages on the immortality of the soul are read with interest.
