CALLINTERIA (Καλλυντήρια). - Ancient Athenian festivals in honor of Athena, generally mentioned together with the Plinteria (v.). Nothing has been handed down to us about the rites celebrated, but the name and the connection with the Plinteria show that these were purification rites, during which the oil of the lamp of Athena Polias was perhaps renewed. It is uncertain when they were celebrated: according to some, on the 19th of Thargelion (May), according to others, after the 20th of this month.
