CASTEL VOLTURNO. — It is an ancient diocese of Campania, of which the bishop Pascasius is known from the end of the 5th century; the *ecclesia vulturniana* also appears again in the middle of the 6th century (Jaffé-Wattenbach, p. 981).
The Geranian Martyrology on 15 February recalls in Campania *Volturno Castrensis* (Acta SS. Novembris, II, II, Brussels 1931, p. 87), a martyr also listed in the calendar of St Willibrord and in the Neapolitan marble calendar. St Castrensis, according to his Life (BHL, I, 1644-45), would have been an African bishop expelled during the Vandal persecution and arrived in Campania, and so Lanzoni considered him. But Delehaye regards him as a local martyr much venerated, as attested by his image found near Calvi and the *fenestella confessionis* discovered at Volturno and preserved in the museum of Capua.
