The Catholic Herald. - An English Catholic weekly founded in 1884 by Charles Diamond (d. 1934), with a distinctly social character. The strongly polemical tone imparted to it by Diamond, its editor until his death, won the newspaper a wide following, though this subsequently declined. A broader scope was given to the Catholic Herald by its new owners, with the aim of making it an organ dealing with general topics and events from a Catholic perspective.
