BONOMO, Giovanna Maria, Blessed. - Benedictine, b. 15 Aug. 1606 in Asiago (Vicenza), d. 1 March 1670 at Bassano. After her mother's death she was educated in the monastery of St. Clare at Trent, where she wished to profess the religious life; but, owing to her father's opposition, she had to return to her family, at Vicenza. Later she obtained permission to enter the Benedictine monastery of St. Jerome, at Bassano Veneto, and she took the habit there on 8 Sept. 1621, making her solemn profession a year later. She subsequently held the offices of mistress of novices, several times of abbess, and of cloistral prioress. She practiced harsh penances and endured frequent illnesses and spiritual trials. She was beatified on 9 June 1783.
