BONOMO, GIOVANNA MARIA, Blessed.
Benedictine nun, born on 15 August 1606 in Asiago (Vicenza), died on 10 March 1670 in Bassano. After her mother’s death, she was educated in the monastery of St Clare in Trent, where she wished to take religious vows; but, owing to her father’s opposition, she had to return home to Vicenza. Later she obtained admission to the Benedictine monastery of St Jerome in Bassano del Grappa, where she received the habit on 8 September 1621 and made her solemn profession a year later. She successively held the offices of novice mistress, several times of abbess, and of prioress under the Rule. She practiced severe penances and endured frequent illnesses and spiritual trials. She was beatified on 9 June 1783.

BONONIO, Saint.
Abbot of Lucedio in the Vercelli region, died in 1626. A Camaldolese monk and one of the most fervent followers of St Romuald, he lived for a time in the monastery of St Stephen in his native city, Bologna. He then journeyed as a pilgrim to Egypt, where he was called its apostle, and lived as a hermit on Mount Sinai. About 990 he was recalled to Italy by Peter, bishop of Vercelli, and appointed abbot of Lucedio, where he remained until his death (1626), and in the same year John XIX canonized him.
