BONOMO, GIOVANNA MARIA, blessed. — Benedictine, born on 15 August 1606 in Asiago (Vicenza), died on 1
March 1670 in Bassano. After her mother’s death, she was educated in the monastery of S. Chiara in Trento, where she would have wished to profess the religious life; but, owing to her father’s opposition, she had to return to her family in Vicenza. Later she obtained permission to enter the Benedictine monastery of S. Girolamo in Bassano Veneto, and received the habit on 8 September 1621, making her solemn profession a year later. Subsequently she held the offices of novice mistress, and several times that of abbess and claustral prioress. She practised severe penances and endured frequent illnesses and spiritual trials. She was beatified on 9 June 1783.
