BONONIO, Saint. - Abbot of Lucedio in the Vercelli area, d. 1026. A Camaldolese monk, among the most fervent followers of St. Romuald, he lived for some time in the monastery of S. Stefano in his native Bologna. He then went as a pilgrim to Egypt, of which he was called the apostle, and lived as a hermit on Sinai. Around 990, recalled to Italy by the bishop of Vercelli, Pietro, he was appointed abbot of Lucedio, where he remained until his death (1026), and in the same year John XIX canonized him.
