CHIAVETTA, GIACINTO. – Capuchin of the province of Messina, in religion Giacinto da Troina.
Learned in ecclesiastical and civil law, he held various offices in his Order; he cultivated spiritual theology, of which he left an essay in the work Istruzioni familiari nelle vie dello spirito (Messina 1732). In it he displays a broad knowledge of both ancient and modern ascetical writers; in his exposition of the various subjects of the ascetical life, he tends to prepare the soul for contemplation. He also wrote a Vita di s. Silvestro di Troina, monaco dell'Ordine di S. Basilio Magno (ibid. 1734).
