Compultery (Cubultery)

COMPULTERIA (Cubulteria). – An ancient diocese of Campania between Treglia and Alvignano. It is mentioned only by St. Gregorio Magno in the year 599, who nevertheless writes that it was already “pro peccatis clero et pontifice destituta” (Jaffé-Wattenbach, 1518–19). Some Christian inscriptions from the sixth century remain, one of them bearing the date 559 (CIL, X, 4613–14; 4629–30).
