CONSULTATIO VETERIS CUIUSDAM IURISCONSULTI. - It is a careful responsum, rendered in ante-Justinianean Roman law, by a jurist of the 5th century and relating to an inheritance division through a brother and sister, the latter represented, in the transaction and in the litigation that arose from it, by her own husband.

In the responsum the various heads of substantive and procedural law are resolved with citation of doctrine and legislation, the latter being drawn from the Gregorian, Hermogenian and Theodosian codes.

The jurist seems to be of Christian sentiments, as the phrases show: « In Dei nomine quid tractari debeat » (V, 1); « Iuvante Deo quid tractari debeat » (VI, 1).

The C. was first edited by Cujas from an apograph manuscript now lost, given to him by A. Loisel. Noteworthy are the subsequent editions by P. Krueger, in Coll. lib. riv. ant., III (Berlin 1890), and by G. Baviera, in Fontes iuris romani anteiustinianei (Florence 1940).
