CORAZZINI, SERGIO. – Poet, born in Rome on 6 Feb. 1886, died there on 18 June 1907. The same friends who comforted him during his life also prepared the posthumous edition of his Liriche (v. definitive collection edited by F. M. Martini, Naples 1935).
These friends were part of the circle around the review Cronache latine (1905–1906), a publication steeped in that disconsolate and desolate sentiment later termed “crepuscular.” Corazzini wandered through a poetry of melancholic inspiration, reflecting motifs from Pascoli and D’Annunzio and even more from Verlaine, Laforgue, Samain, Tammes, and Maeterlinck. Some motifs of faith occasionally appear in the Liriche, especially in poems such as Dolore and Cappella in campagna, yet these do not succeed in resolving his anxious search for peace and religious certainty.
