CRUM, WALTER EWING. - Distinguished Coptologist, b.
at Capebrig, near Glasgow, on 22 July 1865, d. on 18 May 1944. He contributed to all the principal Egyptological periodicals.
His chief work, to which he devoted more than half a century of scientific activity, is the Coptic Dictionary, which appeared in 6 parts from 1929 to 1939. The bibliography of Coptic studies was the object of his collecting and publishing activity from 1892 onward in the Archaeological Report of the Egypt Exploration Fund and subsequently in the Journal of Egyptian Archaeology. He also published literary texts and, above all, documentary texts, both alone and in collaboration with English and foreign scholars.
