CRUSIUS, Christian August – Protestant philosopher and theologian, born at Lenau (Saxony) on 10 Jan. 1715, died there on 18 Oct. 1775. In philosophy CRUSIUS is renowned for his polemic against Wolff and German rationalism, which earned him the approval of Kant. In theology he advocated, for problems of biblical exegesis, the historical-philological method preferred by J. A. Ernesti.
