CRUSIUS, CHRISTIAN AUGUST. – Protestant philosopher and theologian, born in Lenau (Saxony) on 10 January 1715, died there on 18 October 1775. In philosophy, C. is famous for his polemic against Wolff and German rationalism, thereby winning Kant’s support. In theology, in matters of biblical exegesis, he advocated the historical-philological method preferred by J. A. Ernesti.
