Decentius, Bishop of Gubbio

DECENZIO, VESCOVO DI GUBBIO

Italian original Cite

DECENTIUS, Bishop of Gubbio. - His memory is linked to the famous letter that Pope Innocent I sent him in 416, in reply to certain questions. Some were seeking to introduce new uses and rites into the liturgy; D. turned to the Pontiff, and the latter answered him with a solemn and official document from which one can learn the ecclesiastical uses and customs of the 5th century regarding the liturgy, the organization of churches, the discipline of the arcane, the authority of bishops, the instruction of clerics, etc.
