DECENZIO, bishop of GUBBIO. – His memory is linked to the famous letter that Pope Innocent I sent him in 416, in response to several questions. Some wished to introduce new practices and rites into the liturgy; D. appealed to the Pontiff, who replied with a solemn and official document from which ecclesiastical practices and customs in the fifth century may be learned concerning the liturgy, the organization of the churches, the discipline of the arcane, the authority of bishops, the instruction of clerics, etc.
