DAZIO, saint. – He succeeded Magno in the episcopal see of Milan around 530. In 535, a letter from Cassiodorus authorized him to take provisions from the state granaries in order to cope with the famine. Toward the end of 537 he went to Rome to seek help against the Goths, and remained there until 544, when he departed for Constantinople. Having come to Sicily the following year to inform Pope Vigilius about the question of the so-called Three Chapters, he returned to the East together with the Pontiff, whom he assisted and comforted during the famous controversy. He died after February 552, and his body was transferred to Milan and buried in the church of S. Vittore. In the Martyrologium Romanum he is commemorated on 14 January.
