COMMEMORATION. - Quando di uno o più santi o di una feria, vigilia od ottava non si può recitare l'ufficio e la Messa per l'occorrenza di una festa di rito più elevato, allora di essi si fa spesso la c. o memoria nell'ufficio e nella Messa del giorno.The cycles of the Temporal and the Sanctoral in fact run simultaneously, and the Martyrology lists many saints who on the same day ascended to the glory of heaven. It is therefore not rare for a conflict to arise in the calendar between a feast, a Sunday, a feria, a vigil or an octave. The liturgical rules tend to eliminate or mitigate these conflicts, whether by suppressing the less important feasts, or by transferring the more noble ones, or simply by commemorating some of them. This commemoration consists of an antiphon with its relative versicle and collect at Vespers and Lauds, and of the collect in the Mass.
