COMPANIONSHIP OF THE DAUGHTERS OF MARY OUR LADY. - Founded by St. Joan of Lestonnac, baroness of Montferrand Landiras, in 1607, it was the first institute in France dedicated to teaching. It spread rapidly throughout Europe and the Americas. The persecutions suffered in various nations, and especially in France in 1904, made felt the need to unite the institute under the authority of a superior general, which came about in 1921 with the union of a part of the existing communities. At present the religious number over 3000.
